“Darling, what are you doing?”

Turgon glanced up from his glass and looked at her, before shaking his head and looking back down.

“Darling? Turgon, what are you doing? You know I don’t like it when people drink an entire bottle of wine, not after that time at your birthday party, when your cousins got drunk and well, you remember what happened,” Elenwë said.

Turgon refused to look up again.

“Is this about your grandfather leaving? I know your whole family is somewhat upset, but he made his own choice to go with Fëanáro, and there’s nothing to do but for your father to rule, at least for now. I’m sure Finwë will be back eventually.” She waited for him to respond, but when he didn’t shook her head. “If you’re not going to answer me, I’m going to bed. I thought you would have been happy – those cousins of yours are finally gone from the city.”

When she was gone, Turgon shook his head again, pouring the rest of the glass out the window and staring out.

Fingon appeared in the doorway next. “I passed Elenwë in the hallway. She said you seemed upset.”

Turgon glanced back at him. “I am not upset.” He paused, staring at his brother. “I am afraid.”

“I am too. Everyone thinks, well, you know what they think. I don’t think things will ever be normal again.”

“Were they ever normal to begin with?” Turgon asked.
