They were running again.

"Hurry, Doctor!" Charley exclaimed as a pack of Rock-trolls came closer and closer to her. "They're almost on top of us!"

"It's no good, Charley" the Doctor said, sounding grave. " The TARDIS is too far up those mountains. There's no way out. Unless.." His face lit up in excitement as he started taking off his coat. "Charley, take my hand!"

" Doctor, what on earth-" Charley began. But what she saw next she'd never forget. Beneath the Doctor's coat, folded like those of a great Monarch butterfly, was a pair of dark green, feathery wings.

Charley's mouth was agape. "Goodness!" she exclaimed, grabbing the Doctor's hand as they ascended.

The Doctor laughed a little. "Brilliant, isn't it? "

From the air, Charley took in the view: the deep blue rocks of the mountains, the shimmering purple sea, and the burnt red grass.

"Doctor, it's magnificent!" Charley said, trying hard to take in everything. "But...how long have you had them? I mean, I've met some of your lot and I don't recall any of them having wings like great butterflies. "

The Doctor paused. "You know, Charley, I don't actually know. I know Queen Elizabeth VIII seemed to like when I gave her a trip around Venus on them. Or was it Saturn?"

While he was in the midst of reminiscing, Charley just smiled, patting one of the feathers. It felt nice, soft like wool or cotton.
She thought about plucking one and saving it, like one does with leaves.

"So, " the Doctor began, back on subject finally. "To the TARDIS?"

Charley thought for a minute. " I suppose. Though, there is one thing we could do. "

Laughing and cheering with pure joy, the duo made circles and tricks in the air for what could have been an eternity that afternoon. And unbeknownst to the Doctor, Charley kept a soft green little memento of that day hidden under her pillow.
