The Great Plateau spread out vast and gorgeous.

Link came back to think, to mourn. The old man was gone, and it just wasn't the same. Nor was anything, a century from home.

The shrines still held their serene, steady glow; boars snorted and rustled in the woods, but the campfires were all out, and a rusted axe moldered away in idleness against the side of the creaky old cabin.

Link retraced his steps to the fireside camp where he'd first met his friend.

Against all odds, a single roasted apple lay cold in the ashes.

He left it there.
