Summary: Steve decides to take a chance on love, even if only for one night.


Steve Rogers never thought it would happen.

Then Tony figured out how to use the Pym particles and they saved the galaxy. The losses were high, for the entire planet and for him, personally.

He loved them both. Tony and Natasha.

If anyone had asked before, he’d have said that no one could love two people with all their heart at one time. But he had. Tony had been a red-hot sizzling passion. His skin burned when Tony had looked at him, not to mention what happened when they touched.

But Natasha was a slow burn. They’d become best friends through all they went through – the fall of SHIELD, the exile, the aftermath of the SNAP. He had come to love her. He hoped to spend his life with her after it was done.

She had chosen to save her family – him and the rest of the world.

He had more Pym particles than the others knew about. He would return the Stones and make another stop. He would visit her before the Time Heist. He’d look the same so maybe she’d never know it was him from the future, or maybe she’d know right away. Either way7, he was going to tell her how he felt. If she didn’t feel the same way, he was okay with that. If she did, maybe he would get a chance to spend one night in her arms.

One night to last him forever.

The time came and he accomplished huis mission, returning all the Stones. He set his GPS and he was in the headquarters. It was late but he’d lived there on and off for years. He knew the place in the dark.

He made his way tio Natahsa’s quarters. He tapped on her door.

“It’s open,” she answered. She looked up when he came in and smiled at him.

She stared at him for a moment. She opened her mouth to sp[eak, then closed it. She started again. “Did we beat Thanos?”

She knew.

He nodded.

“I didn’t come back?”

“Why would you think that?’

“Why else would you be here?”

“I came to tell you something I never told you.”

She shook her head and raised one eyebrow. “You love me?”

“How did-”

“I’ve loved you ever since we kissed in that damned mall. The least you could do is love me back.”

He crossed the room and pulled her to her feet and into his arms.

“This is the only night we’ll ever have,” she said after a long kiss. “You can still go.”

“If we only get one night, we are still lucky we found one another,” he told her as he lifted her into his arms and carried her to the bedroom.

Early the next day, he left her sleeping and went back to his own time. He didn’t go back to the Avengers headquarters. He went to Europe, where no one would know him and began again

Maybe this time, he’d be an artist…
