Author’s Note: I used Google Arts & Culture to learn more about the painting and watched part of a video in which a letter Van Gogh wrote to his brother about the painting was read. It was very informative.

Summary: An examination of Van Gogh’s, Bedroom in Arles (directly across from me in the living room).

Butter yellow, soft violet, bright orange and red, touches of green and brown, stark white. A bedroom in Arles. 

With the window shut, there is peace. Nothing can enter, except the golden light of the sun or the pale light of the moon casting everything in shadow. 

The artist displays his paintings above the bed and beside the window. Points of inspiration. Places of rest. Nothing more is needed.

Paints and canvas, and the artist himself. He is enough. This room is enough. The furniture, sparse though it is, is enough.

Everything speaks, yet there is silence. 

It is enough.
