Umi stared at Ferio, then out at the train tracks, then back at him. “We aren’t really going to do this, are we?”

Ferio stared back at her, eyes just as wide as hers. “I think – I think we are.”

“This is ridiculous,” she whispered, and felt herself starting to grin uncontrollably. “We’re about to try to jump on top of a train-“

“A mostly still train, hopefully-“

“Not entirely! If we jump on in the train in the station people will see, we need to be this side of the tunnel, it’s going to be moving!”

“Slow-moving, then. …We’re not telling my sister, right?” Ferio clambered carefully onto the small wall above the tunnel mouth, and then reached back to take the pack from Umi so she could jump up too. “Tell me we’re going to work out how to skip this in the report?”

“We’re not telling her, and we’re not telling Clef.”

“Hell no we’re not telling him! He’d tell Em, too-“

Umi scrambled up beside him and stuck her hand out to Ferio to shake in agreement, aware of the slow-growing vibration of the train approaching. “It’s a deal. No telling either of them.”

They shook, and then crouched there, waiting to make a bad choice.
