Title: Derailment of the Heart
Fandom: Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? (1991 TV Series)
Rating: Teen
Length: 395
Prompt: Train
Content notes: No dialogue.
Summary: Carmen tries to run away from her problems, but things happen. (Takes place before the beginning of the show.)

The train moved steadily along the tracks, its rhythmic chugging providing a backdrop to the turmoil inside the mind of the young woman sitting in one of the carriages. The young woman was famed former ACME CrimeNet detective and now villainess extraordinaire, Carmen Sandiego. Carmen stared blankly out the window, watching the world go by without really seeing it. Her heart was heavy with the weight of the choices she had made, the mistakes she had committed, and the people she had hurt.

She had boarded the train with the intention of running away, of leaving behind everything and everyone that reminded her of her past. But as she sat there, the reality of what she was doing sank in, and she felt a surge of panic rising in her chest. What if she was making a mistake? What if she was running away from something she couldn't escape?

The train whistle blew, and Carmen felt tears pricking at the corners of her eyes. She closed them, trying to block out the sound, but it only seemed to get louder. It was like the train was mocking her, reminding her of the things she was leaving behind.

As the train sped along, Carmen's thoughts turned to the people she had hurt. She thought of those she had betrayed – the family she had abandoned, and the friends she had let down. She thought of the words they had said to her, the accusations they had hurled, and the pain she had caused.

And then, suddenly, the train jolted to a stop. Carmen opened her eyes and looked around, confused. People were rushing past her, yelling and screaming, and she couldn't make sense of what was happening. And then, as she looked out the window, she saw the reason for the chaos.

The train had collided with another, and the carriages were mangled and twisted. People were trapped inside, screaming for help, and Carmen felt a surge of guilt and shame wash over her. She had been so caught up in her own pain and misery that she hadn't even noticed the danger she was in.

As she stumbled out of the wreckage, Carmen realized that she couldn't run away from her problems. She had to face them head-on, and maybe, just maybe, she could find a way to make peace with her past and move on.

I just loved this so much. Well done. I've never seen the show, but it doesn't matter. I was pulled into the story line, anyhow.
