Summary:
Neither of them sleeps at night.

Ed stumbles from the bed half asleep in search of his mysteriously absent partner. He pauses in the kitchen, squints at the door left open a few inches and promptly decides to get coffee first. Once he's got two mugs in hand, he props open the door and admires the view.

Roy's sitting on the porch alone, knees drawn up, chin resting on his folded arms. He makes a remarkable silhouette, his hair fluttering in the wind, a flash of light illuminating his features every time the thunder strikes.

Ed's not sure why he would willingly choose to get wet, but then again, there's probably less reason to be paranoid about not being able to defend himself in Resembool than it would be at their own home in Central.

"It's the middle of the night," Ed complains, dragging the blanket behind him and shoving a coffee cup towards Roy who glances up and smiles.

"Very early morning, my dear."

Ed wrinkles his nose, both at the semantics as well as the pet name and sits down beside him. From down here, he realizes that the storm doesn't quite hit at a right angle — not enough to get soaked, anyway. Instead, there's the early morning breeze against his bare ankle. Comforted, he drapes a corner of his blanket over Roy and leans his head against his shoulder.

"In which case, it's definitely too early for this," Ed mumbles. "Couldn't sleep?"

Roy drags his hand over his face and sighs. "Not well at the very least. I suspect I'm simply inadequate at sleeping. Why are you awake?"

"Bed was cold," Ed says. "You're about forty percent of my body heat these days."

"That is a rather convoluted way to say you missed me," Roy says, a rather smug smirk playing on his lips.

Ed snorts. "Get fucked," he says, although he doesn't bother to deny the accusation. It's true, after all.

Roy slides a conciliatory arm around Ed's shoulders and presses a kiss to his hairline. "Thank you for the coffee," he mumbles as they watch the storm wind down. "...and the company."

"You're welcome," Ed says and settles in more comfortably.
