Summary: Cade has a daydream about visiting Cybertron with Optimus
There were moments when Cade wondered, what it would be like to leave Earth and explore the vast universe with Optimus by his side. On the rare occasions they’ve talked about Optimus’ past Cade listened fascinated, trying his best to create mental images of the places and creatures Optimus mentioned. In these moments Cade felt as if he was suddenly a little boy again, listen to the stories of his grandparents or any story his mother has read to him.
If only he would be able to see Cybertron, or rather what was left of it, with his own eyes. Somehow he was certain that it would be more beautiful and fascinating than the mental image of it he had created based on what he had heard of it, either from Optimus or any of the other Autobots. But he doubted that even if it would be possible, Optimus would agree to such a journey.
All Cade had were his daydreams, about him and Optimus visiting Cybertron.
He imaged them, walking across the planet, while Optimus showed him important places of his past and of the history of Cybertron as well. They would meet old friends of Optimus, who had managed to survive, listen to their stories and having in return tell them about Earth.
Cade imaged that they would be curious about him and what his connection with Optimus was. You surely don’t travel with a friend through the universe to a far away planet. At least in Cade’s human understanding this was strange, but maybe this was some common practice among other species he had never heard of?
While Cade pictured him and Optimus exploring a fascinating building filled with strange objects and Optimus explaining to him what he was looking at, Optimus examined his face with slight amusement.
He seldom saw Cade lost in thoughts, therefore it was a strange view. Optimus wondered, what Cade was thinking about. Judging from the expression on his face, it was definitely not an invention or anything that had to do with work. It must be something that was filling his heart with happiness, since the smile on his face was one Optimus knew to well.
Cade was certainly thinking about him or maybe he was just thinking about the past? No, Cade was thinking about him or rather them. Optimus didn’t knew why he was so certain about that, but somehow he didn’t saw a reason why Cade should think about the past either.
He seldom thought about the past since he had found a new home on Earth, a home he was sharing with the most precious human he had met. When he had landed on Earth, Optimus had never imaged to find such happiness on a foreign planet.
For an Earth-second Optimus was about to softly call Cade’s name, but then he decided that he would just wait for him to leave whatever scenario was in his head. Optimus shifted into a more comfortable position, optics wandering over Cade, who seemed to be in a rather uncomfortable position on the chair, at least judging from his understanding of the human body.
He knew a way to deal with that. Optimus blinked a few times, irritated from such a thought. The sound of his optics opening and closing seemed too be too loud and somehow he was sure that Cade would hear it, but that wasn’t the case.
The smile on Cade’s face got a tad wider and his lips were forming some words Optimus couldn’t figure out. Perhaps Cade would tell him, if he would ask him.
Earth-minutes passed in silence. When Cade snapped out of his daydream, the first thing he was aware of, was Optimus’ optics on him. He looked up to him. “What’s the matter, dear?” He asked, running a hand through his hair. “Have I slept?” He must have had a nap, otherwise he wouldn’t feel like he had lost part of the day.
“You’ve been lost in thoughts.” Optimus explained. “Pleasing thoughts I assume, since you’ve smiled the whole time.” When he saw Cade’s mimic change, Optimus couldn’t resits to add “You’ve thought about me, am I right?” The ghost of a smile was visible on his face and the way his optics looked at Cade, made Cade chuckle. Was it that obvious? Sure it was. Optimus knew that he was probably 24/7 on his mind, even that was a bit of an exaggeration. But in a figuratively way he was.
“I thought about us traveling to … uhmm … some far away place.” Cade remarked, unsure if he should continue or not. He didn’t wanted to risk to be responsible for eventually creating homesickness within Optimus. It was one thing to talk about Cybertron when Optmus felt like doing it but it was probably not wise to be the one bringing it up. Cade knew from personal experience how it could hurt if someone was mentioning something which was connected with both happiness and sadness. He didn’t wanted to make a blunder and possibly ruining the mood.
“The universe has a lot of fascinating places, which are worth a visit.” Optimus replied. “There are a few places on Earth I’d like to visit one day, if it would be possible.” Cade knew that traveling around the Earth was as dangerous for them as traveling through space would be. No matter where they’d go, they’d have to watch their steps and would have to make sure not to draw any attention towards them.
“Where would you like to go, dear? Even if we can’t go in person, at least for now, we could visit the place in our minds.” Cade suggested. He was curious about which corners of the Earth Optimus would like to see. Maybe they shared a travel destination or two.
