Summary: “In case it still wasn’t obvious,” Kurogane said.

oOo

Kurogane was fully aware of Tomoyo-hime leaving the room, even focused as he was on Fai and with all the distractions of the emptiness at his side – and, yeah, the pain, because he might have been unconscious through the worst of it, but it was still highly unpleasant.

But he tracked Tomoyo-hime leaving them alone because she barely said anything as she did so, just slipped away, and for her to leave without at least stopping to tease-

Well, he thought, shoving aside quite what she might have seen. If she was leaving without saying anything, at least they should have time enough for this – and he reached up with his arm to grab hold of Fai’s and pull him down onto the futon.

Fai dropped down across his legs with half a protest and an attempt at a glare that failed to last the few seconds it took for Kurogane to get his hand from Fai’s elbow to the back of his neck, tugging him down closer still, until their lips pressed hard together.

Five minutes ago, he wouldn’t have done this, wouldn’t have presumed so much when things were still so raw. But Fai had whacked him about the head and smirked at him, and to be honest they both knew he could have just stood there while Kurogane yanked at his arm for hours if he didn’t want to move. Right now Kurogane was competitively as weak as any number of proverbial kittens.

But Fai had dropped to his knees over Kurogane’s lap, wearing that – and Kurogane was going to find out who was responsible for getting him that clothing at some point – and his arms were around Kurogane’s back, his lips warm, his mouth hot.

After a few moments they broke apart, just a fraction. “In case it still wasn’t obvious,” Kurogane said, letting his voice be rough with the honest. He let his thumb stroke across the side of Fai’s neck, and watched as Fai bit his own lower lip, a flush on his cheeks.

“This is horrible timing,” Fai pointed out, but his arms were tight about Kurogane’s back.

Kurogane shrugged, then winced at the pain that caused. “We aren’t in the middle of a battle. That’s good enough.”

Fai swayed closer, and the smile on his lips was small, and real, and moderately devastating. “You’re shaking.”

“I don’t care.” Kurogane looked up at him, this ridiculous mess of a mage, in his arms and alive and that was all Kurogane needed.

“I can’t retie this belt on myself,” Fai said, trying to make it sound like a complaint but failing and at that Kurogane’s heart did something highly impractical.

“I can’t help you,” he said, trying to keep his voice steady and raising one eyebrow. “But I’m sure you’ll manage. Or manage to find someone to help you again, anyway.”

Fai grinned at him, and closed the space between them, and Kurogane didn’t care in the slightest how much this might make him shake. They had a moment. They were going to take it.
