Summary: It was the only place the Calamity couldn't reach.

When Link learned snow again, he hated it. It numbed his calloused fingertips, packed into his collar and poured freezing down his back. He slipped on the ice when he ran, and thick snow made every step a trial. His red nose dripped, and when night fell there was no dry ground to rest upon. With no travelers but wolves, he was lonely.

A man on the road had asked him once if he’d heard of the mountain with the dragon’s bite mark. Link thought for a moment that that sounded grand--but if such a great dragon existed, would the Calamity have happened?

The more he explored, the more he wondered--had it? Perhaps not, at the top of the world. There were no cabins then to ruin, no settlers to murder. No dry ground to harbor Ganon’s fires. Even a century later, the mountain wore a mantle of fog, so that even from the peaks Link could not see what had been wrought.

Though the air was thin on Hebra Mountain, Link could breathe. Though comfort eluded him, he found that he could sleep. And when he sat, legs swinging off the edge of the world, everything was almost alright.
