Gus came out of the bedroom where he had been snooping through his dad’s drawers. He was hoping to find his birthday present, but instead he’d found several interesting and odd things. He wondered the most about why there was a black mask hanging in the wardrobe.

“Dad, what’s this for?” he asked, holding up the mask for Brian to see.

“That is… uh… my Halloween costume.”

“But you hate Halloween. That’s what you’ve been telling me ever year I make you take me trick-or-treating, and you haven’t worn a costume even one single time.” Gus was pretty persistent for a ten year old.

Just then, Justin came into the room looking for Brian. “Oh there you are. A call just came in and we gotta go.” Looking over at Gus, he noticed the mask in his hands. “Oh good, you found it! I’ve been searching for that for the past fifteen minutes. Let’s go!” he said and dashed out of the room.

“Dad, what is going on!?” Gus asked, passing the mask to Brian.

Looking into his son’s eyes, he answered, “It’s a secret, but I promise I will tell you about it when Justin and I get back.”
