Warmth: Inuyasha, Fic, Nowhere to Be
Title: Nowhere to Be
Author: c3childs
Fandom: Inuyasha
Pairing: Inuyasha, Sesshoumaru
Rating : G
Word Count: 416
Summary: Sesshoumaru is a good big brother. He just doesn't see it that way. AU (or Current Universe Alternate History?) - Follows this
Crystal flakes of snow whirled from the grey sky. Amidst the whirling dervish, Sesshoumaru stood as still as stone, affected none at all by the cold. The dog demon stood in a valley, snow steadily rising but presently just over his ankles. Far behind him, Inuyasha slowly made his way to him, trying to follow in the elder inuyoukai’s footsteps.
With his brother traveling with him, his progress was seriously impeded. Sesshoumaru had slowed his pace considerably for his sake and was now at a literal standstill and waited.
Finally, his half-brother plodded up beside him. Inuyasha looked up at him with mournful eyes, trembling and pink with cold.
“You are too slow.”
“You got bigger legs ‘n me! It ain’t my fault.”
Inuyasha didn’t like any perceived weakness or blame to be placed anywhere near him. He bristled, ears lying flat and lip curling. But Sesshoumaru smelled fear under his anger.
Sesshoumaru stared at him and watched as Inuyasha’s face and ears drooped. A stiff wind blew a swirl of snow into the hanyou’s face, and he ducked his head down into his robe.
Snorting lightly in annoyance, he snatched Inuyasha by his collar, tucked him under his left arm, and resumed the trek, ignoring his little brother’s yelp entirely.
“Stop squirming.”
“Can’t breathe!”
He grunted in response but adjusted his hold to allow him air. Still, his brother continued to shift and twist and tug until he managed to prop himself on Sesshoumaru’s hip and wrap his arms around his neck.
“Ow. Your armor’s pokin’ me.”
He wordlessly moved Inuyasha to his other side, not breaking his stride. Not previously thought possible, Inuyasha held tighter with legs and arms and buried his cold face in Sesshoumaru’s neck. He growled low and deep when he somehow tucked his feet into the folds of his kimono.
“You’re so warm,” Inuyasha sighed happily, breath hot on his neck. “Where we going, Sesshoumaru?”
“To the Western Lands.”
Inuyasha pulled back enough to stare at his brother’s profile.
“That’s where you’re from. You’re the lord. We’re going to your home?”
“Yes.”
“Oh.”
Excited contentment came from Inuyasha, who seemed to be trying to work himself completely into Sesshoumaru’s kimono. He sniffled and tucked his nose back into his brother’s neck.
With winter’s arrival, it might be best to return to the castle. He’d left it for too long now. The servants had no doubt become lax in their duties. It would do well to remind them who they served.
